The style of early Muslim commentators was to list all possible interpretations of given verses from the Qur'an. On verses related to the death of Jesus, it is surprising to see that in the list of legitimate interpretations, early Muslim commentators included the interpretation that Jesus did actually die. (This interpretation is almost unknown, since the standard Muslim teaching today is that Jesus did not die.) It is understood by Muslims that Jesus is now alive.
